Shih Tzu Markings and Patterns
There are many ways to describe color and markings. Here are a few we have used.
Blaze: is referred to as a strip of white or different colored hair between the eyes on the top of the head.
Flare: is when the blaze is wider and is towards the top of the head.
Bracelets/bracelet: Is a marking around of on the paw or wrist of the puppy.
Collar: is around the neck which is usually white.
Saddle: saddle like the saddle that is placed on a horse
Tuxedo: white patch of hair can be found on the chest. Can be white or another color.
Some markings are unique and are described in their own ways.
Black Mask: Usually a black coloring of hair on the puppies muzzle like a beard. THe markings can extend upward towards the eye and ears.
Dobie Markings: This is a rare coloring in Shih Tzus but the marking can occur in puuppies when the are born and slowly go away. This markings would be simlar to a Doberman Pinscher. These type of markings can be found above the eye, around the jawls, lower legs, and under the tail. These puppies would be price at premium adoption rate. We have not produced a Dobie but Cutie does have Dobie in her lines and many of her puppies look Dobie at birth.
Black Tips: The puppy is born with a coat that is a certain color and has black tips at the end of the hair. We have had the and the coat was beautiful.
Nose to toes!
Black Nose: In Black nosed Shih Tzu color is determined by the coat of the puppy. Tinker has a black nose.
Liver Nose: A puppy dog will be a Liver if the nose shad is in the brown color range. It can be a Dark Chocolate to white.
Blue Nose: Blue noses are rare and unique these puppies can be a dark navy blue to a light lavender blue.
Look at the nose and pad to make sure they are a true blue.
Solid Black: A solid black has no other hair color. If there is a trace of another color the Shih-Tzu would not be considered a solid black. The Shih-Tzu will have a solid black nose. Most of our black are not solid black and are more unique they usually turn silver within the first six months.
Silver: Our silvers tend to be born black and then over time they turn into a grey shiny coat. The puppies will have black eye rims, black lips black nose and black pads.
Solid White: these puppies have white coats with no other traces of any other colors. The noses on these puppies will be black but also can be seen with liver or brown colored noses. Creams and non whites can be considered white the AKC paperwork will not describe them as white.
Blue: Solid blue is rare and beautiful. Blues can range from dark blue to light blue.
Red: red is a color that ranges from deep dark red to bright red orange. These puppy dogs will have black or liver noses.
Gold: a solid gold is usually tan to yellow in shade.
